Wanstead Quaker Meeting

The present Meeting House is in a beautiful setting surrounded by trees and was built in 1968 on what was originally forest land.
As Quakers we strive to ‘Show a loving consideration for all creatures and seek to maintain the beauty and variety of the world’. We have therefore been working towards becoming a greener community for many years and in 2022 we achieved a silver award for the ‘A Rocha Eco Church Programme’. This programme includes focussing on buildings & energy, land & nature and community & global engagement.
For our building, we have carried out energy saving improvements and are currently awaiting triple glazing, a heat pump and solar panels. For land & nature, we regularly work with the Wren Wildlife and Conservation Group holding events such as moth identification, fungi hunting in the burial ground and bat spotting at dusk. We have also had a survey of our grounds by the Bumblebee Conservation Trust and we are in the process of planting more bumblebee friendly flowers.
For community engagement we have initiated North East London Eco Faith, a loose coalition of faiths, looking at climate issues and climate justice from a faith perspective. We are now working on the next steps for the A Rocha gold award.
All are welcome to worship with us at 10.30am on Sunday mornings. Rooms are available for hire and can be viewed on our website.
