Spitalfields Crypt Trust, founded in 1965, helps people in East London with complex drug and alcohol addictions change their lives. The sales from our charity shops help to fund expert support, a safe home, meaningful work, and a supportive community.

There’s far more happening in our shops than raising money! As well as offering rewarding volunteer opportunities and a place to meet and connect, we’re focussed on our social and environmental impact.

Our charity shops provide a sustainable and ethical option when people wish to dispose of unwanted clothes, books, furniture and other household items. The shop’s first choice is always to ensure these items are re-used by selling them on.

The next most sustainable option is to recycle. If we cannot sell an item, we seek to recycle it via a textile recycler & are able to reuse or recycle more than 90% of donated clothing, over 90% of donated books and 85% of donated electrical goods.

Very little goes to waste and we’re always exploring new ways of working and re-using!

‘SCT in the Community’ was launched in 2023 where we hold workshops & upcycling activities in stores, look out for one in your local branch soon!
